Dorothy was born in 1580 in Eckington, Derbyshire, England.  Dorothy's father was William STANIFORTH and her mother was Joane MYCOCKE.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas STANIFORTH and Agnes (UNKNOWN).  She had six brothers and two sisters, named William, Godfrey, Henry, John, Thomas, Robert, Marjorie and Joan.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
