Martha was born on June 3rd, 1798 in Ashton On Mersey, Cheshire, England.  Martha's father was James MARSLAND and her mother was Betty LEIGH.  Her paternal grandparents were John MARSLAND and Mary WILLIAMSON.  She had three brothers and four sisters, named John, Edward, James, Mary, Hannah, Betty and Rachel.  She was the third oldest of the eight children.
