John was born on August 21st, 1796 in Ashton On Mersey, Cheshire, England.  John's father was James MARSLAND and his mother was Betty LEIGH.  His paternal grandparents were John MARSLAND and Mary WILLIAMSON.  He had two brothers and five sisters, named Edward, James, Mary, Martha, Hannah, Betty and Rachel.  He was the second oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 81 in 1877 in Ashton On Mersey, Cheshire, England.
