John was born in 1845 in Sale, Cheshire, England.  John's father was John MARSLAND and his mother was Nancy WALKER.  His paternal grandparents were Edward MARSLAND and Martha GRESTY.  He had five brothers and six sisters, named James, John, Joseph, Edward, Thomas, Mary, Sarah, Ellen, Ann, Nancy and Elizabeth.  He was the seventh oldest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 31 in 1876 in Sale, Cheshire, England.
