Martin was born in April 1885.  Martin's father was Stephen A. WALKER and his mother was Barbara Alice DISSER.  His paternal grandparents were John WALKER and Nancy NORRIS; his maternal grandparents were Michael (Sr.) DISSER and Catherine ANSTEATT.  He had four brothers and four sisters, named Lawrence E., John M., William, Stephen, Catharine, Florence, Mary E. and Barbara.  He was the sixth oldest of the nine children.
