    Barbara Alice Disser and Stephen A. Walker (named after Stephen A. Douglas) Walker were married in Washington, Indiana. Barbara lived with her sister Rose Zinkan (married name). She was from around Vincennes, Indiana. ((I think either Montgomery or Washington, Indiana)) Tom Walker (cousin) of Stephen Walker ((who lived in Silverlake, Kansas with his two half brothers)) saw Barbara Disser and liked her. He told Stephen about her and beings Stephen couldn't write his cousin wrote for him. They never saw each other until just before they were married 1872.
    Barbara was the baby of the Disser family 4 girls and 4 boys, Mary, Rose, Joseph, Sylvester, Lousia, John, Mike, and Barbara Alice. After the wedding they went to Kansas by train. (( Stephen was to have worked for the Atchison, Topeka, Santa Fe railroad.)) ((Maybe he only bought land from them 1874))
    Catharine was born Jan. 21, 1873. They lived around 6 1/2 miles from Holton, Kansas. They lived there 28yrs. Mary was 9yrs old when they moved to Oklahoma in 1899. While traveling in 1899 from Kansas to Oklahoma, they stopped to see Uncle Joe Disser and Burns. Catharine and Mary were allow to stayed up to see the New Year and new century come in 1900. Lawrence and Mike (two of their brothers) stayed in Kansas and farmed not at the same farm tho.
    Mike moved to Oklahoma, Pabitzky's also moved to Oklahoma and ran a resturant. Clara Pabitzky and Mike were married. John Michael had 160 acre farm.
    Barbara died 4 of August 1901 after her daughter Florice died. (( Barbara had said she didn't want to died before Florice, who suffered from dysentery for several years. She ate too many green apples is what I was always told)) (( Rosa Vanderbol Brodhacker has down that Barbara died as a result of a buggy accident)) Barbara always wanted to hear a sermon preached in German but it didn't happen until she was on her death bed. She died in Oklahoma 4 or 5 miles from Glenco. They had Mass at her house. ((March 1996 Mary Ann and Bob Carter were at the Shipman cementary where Florence, Barbara, and Stephen Walker are buried.))
    
    Mary made her First Holy Communion on Ascension Day May 16, 1901. At her home the Sacred Heart pictures were over the altar (which was a table decorated with flowers etc. Pictures were a wedding present to her parents 1872 on their wedding day from Barbara' sister Rosalie) (These pictures were given to Frances Hirtz and she took home to Virginia August 1965.)
    Mary was born in Holton, Kansas, then moved to 4 or 5 miles from Glenco, Oklahoma, then to 11 miles from Pawnee, Oklahoma. Stephen sold out in 1901 ((we changed to 1910)) He went to visit, took Mary and Barbara too. They went to Ark Kan Sas City, Kansas ( 6 or 7 miles from uncle Joe Disser (their mothers brother) and Burns (cousin). Then they went on to Barbara Purcell (uncle John Walker's baby) Stephen went on to Indiana and left Mary and Barbara there. They got tired of waiting for him and went on to Holton, Kansas to work. They did house work. Several months later Barbara went to her brother Will Walker's.
    Stephen bought a place in the Ozark 1910-1911 P.O. was Bado, Missouri. It was called Cabool, Missouri where he bought. Henry Niehouse was from there. Mary worked out for a woman who had a baby named Teeter. Mary stayed there until September 1913 when she came to Campbell, Missouri then on to Wilhelmina. She stayed at the hotel building. She met Gabriel VanderBol at Eggings, Mary was working for them Nov. 1913. Gabriel came to Wilhelmina May 1913. Wilhelmina was only 4 years old when Gabriel and Mary came there. Sept. 13, 1913, Mary came to Wilhelmina, Missouri. She stayed in the hotel (was the upstairs) of the Hoag store. She stayed there for about a week.
    The Eggings were expecting their 3rd baby so Mary went to live with them and do house work. Mary bought 7 acres north of the church house, had a one room house built on it 16 x 20. Barbara and Mary moved in. The house was built from lumber from her own land. Mary met Gabriel about 2 weeks after she went to Wilhelmina. Mr Egging had Gabriel at their house the night of the box supper and there was nothing she could do but go along with him to the box super. Gabriel got Mary's box. Barbara worked for Van Teene (right across from Mary's house). Gabriel had the next hotel built (Queenland Hotel( ((named after the Queen of Holland)) Van Teen ran Gabriel's hotel for him. Mary and Barbara worked at Gabriel's for free as they were planning on getting married. Mary baked bread for the people. After they were called off for marriage Fr. Tesselar said they couldn't live at the hotel any more until they wre married, so back and fourth morning and evening they went to work. They were married by Fr. Tesselar 11 Feb., 1914. Fr. Tesselar tried to marry Pete and Mary. Pete said yes but Mary didn't say a word so Fr. knew something was wrong. Then he married Pete and Barbara, Gabriel and Mary. The first double wedding at Wilhelmina. Mary and John were born in Wilhelmina. They moved to Arkansas January 1920, Jennings, Finders and Chambers were some of their neighbors, later Vaughns and Michaels. They farmed in Arkansas ____years. Here Catherine, Joseph, 3 miss carriages, Frances, and Bernadette-born dead were born. Mary, John, Catherine and Joseph had so far to walk to school which was in Wilhelmina, they deceided to move and bought a farm in Valley Ridge about 4 miles from Glennonville, Missouri. This time it was close to school (Rush Creek). There John, Catherine, Joseph and Frances went to school. Uncle Will moved down on the Arkansas place and farmed it until he got bad off and couldn't farm any more, then he moved in with us and stayed until he died Sept. 24, 1938. ((Aunt Frances deceided Will died at night so we figured it was Sept. 24th but by the time the funeral home got him it was 25th and that is what they put on his tombstone)) ((Mary and Catherine were to take turns with uncle Will at the Arkansas place. This worked for awhile then Mary went to St. Louis to work. She worked at St. Anthony's Hospital, baby sat, worked at Poly's store.)) Dr. Rutledge delivered all of Mary's children.
    September 1902 Stephen Walker wanted Catharine to leave so she went to live and keep house with her brother John Michael Walker. ((She was not going to married a man with a simple name. She was going with a Mr. Smith)) She stayed here until Apri 21, 1903 when she married John Brown in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Mary saw her go by the school house and never saw her again. They wrote to each other. Whenever Stephen would suclke, he would tell people to get out. This was why Catherine left, John and Will.
    One night or early morning in September 1938 a car stopped in, it was Mary's and Will's cousin Mamie Goodrell (she married Chris Walker) They talked about an hour or so, but never came in as they were on there way home. Mary's grandparents Dissers came across Ocean in 1830 in a sail ship took 6 weeks to cross.
    Catherine Steele told Frances-Uncle Will didn't like John Brown (his brother-in-law) and didn't want him to come around. Also he didn't want Theresa his wife to come to his funeral. Will and Theresa never divorced, just separated. She believed other people over what he would said. Started going after him with a knife.
    All Mary's brothers played violin. They played for dances. Mary played the organ. She would cord. She always sang, hummed or whistled. She sang to her chickens. When down in the dump, would go to the river in Arkansas. She took a nurse course through the mail. She received a certificate for it.

    It was 3 miles to school in Wilhelmina and 3 miles back total 6miles. Three kids Mary, John, and Catherine rode horse to school-leave in priest barn and feed him. Gabriel would come to meet them if not home when he thought they should be. He would holler so they could hear him. He said leave the horse alone and he would bring them home as the horse knew the way. Gabriel used to make elderberry wine which grew wild there. Mary used to tattle on John and Catherine so they would be careful what they said around her. Mary would tease Frances when she cried. Would go get a cup and say I will catch a little tear. When the neighbors hound dogs would howl, Frances was scared of the dog howling. When the dogs would shut up, Mary would start howling. When Frances pouted, Mary would say " I can go to town on your lips"

    On Jan. 2, 1927 went to Pawnee, OK to visit Catharine and John Brown and family for the day.  The following Friday afternoon he had a stroke which paralized his left side (he had suffered at least 2 strokes before this).  Some of his children came to see him on Sunday but he couldn't talk to where they could understand him.  The next day he became unconsious and they came back to stay with him.  He died 11 Jan 1927(Tues. afternoon at 2).  Buried at Shipman Cemetery in Glencoe, Payne Co., OK.
