August was born on March 20th, 1836.  August's father was Pieter Joannes BAECKELANDT and his mother was Maria-Therese LIPPENS.  His paternal grandparents were Martinus-Joseph BAECKELANDT and Jeanne-Catharina VAN LAECKE; his maternal grandparents were Joannes-Baptiste LIPPENS and Regina DE DECKER.  He had a brother and a sister, named Bruno and Pauline Francisca.  He was the youngest of the three children.  He had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Carolus Ludovicus, Henri, Carolus Ludovicus, Rosalie, Pauline and Melanie.  He died in 1836.
