Judocus BAECKELANDT

Judocus was born on June 16th, 1680. Judocus' father was Mathias BAECKELANDT and his mother was Elisabeth GOVAERTS. His paternal grandparents were Petrus BAECKELANDT and Livina VERHEECKE. He was an only child.

  At the time of Judocus' birth in 1680, Flanders was nominally part of the Spanish Netherlands; however, the Sun King, Louis XIV of France, had sent his troops into the territory on multiple occasions, seizing large parts of Flanders in 1667.
  
  By 1708, the year Judocus married Livina, the War of the Spanish Succession had been on for several years. Judocus lived to see the end of that war (1713), when Flanders fell under the control of the Holy Roman Empire. Judocus survived under that regime until at least 1727.
