Rachel's father was Robert McPike and her mother was Elizabeth Robertson. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Morrison McPike and Agnes McTaggart Mcclelland; her maternal grandparents were John Robertson and Agnes Gourlay. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Robert, John, Richard, Jeanie, Marion and Agnes. She was the third youngest of the seven children. She died at the age of 78 on July 11th, 1983 in Maybole.
