Margaret was born on August 17th, 1776 in Kirknewton. Margaret's father was John Erskine and her mother was Betty Ogstone. She had three brothers and five sisters, named John, Robert, Robert, Boyd, Isabella, Betty, Christian and Christian.  She was the third youngest of the nine children.
