Christian was born on March 29th, 1778 in Kirknewton. Christian's father was John Erskine and her mother was Betty Ogstone. She had three brothers and five sisters, named John, Robert, Robert, Boyd, Isabella, Betty, Christian and Margaret.  She was the second youngest of the nine children.
