Rachel BROWN

Rachel was born in 1839 in Whitby, North Yorkshire, England.

Rachel's father was Joseph BROWN and her mother was Ann MAUGHAN. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph BROWN and Eleanor STAINTHORP; her maternal grandparents were John MAUGHAN and Rachel MORLOW. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, Henry, John, Fanny and Isabell. She was the oldest of the six children. She died at the age of 79 in 1918 in Stockton-on-Tees, Durham, UK.

General Notes
- 1861 census from Whitby shows Rachel Robinson, age 22, Master-Mariners wife living in the Paddock with her parents Joseph and Ann Brown. Harry Robinson, grandson, 7-months is also listed.

  Birth from 1851 census and the IGI Rachel married - ? Robinson in 1859. Marriage. BMD ref:- Whitby 9d (17)92 Dec 1/4 1859. In the 1881 census Rachel has the following children all born Whitby:- Rachel 18 John.C 14 Lily 12 ( census at Fanny Harkers) Eleanor.B 10 Fanny 9 Joseph 7 Elizabeth 4 Alice.M 1 In the 1861 census there was also a son Harry aged 7 months. Rachel was with her parents at The Paddock. In the census for 1871 the family were living at 1 Watson's Yard and in 1881 the family were living at 1 Routh Walk. 1891 saw Rachel living with her daughter Ann and her family in Egton. In the 1901 census it seems Rachel ran a Toy Shop. Alice was assistant in a book shop. John having retired from the sea was now a store keeper in a brick makers.They lived at 14 Norfolk Street, Stockton on Tees.
