Bertha was born about 1054 in Vlaardingen,Zuid-Holland. Bertha's father was Count of Holland Floris Holland I and her mother was Countess of Holland Gertrude Saxony. Her maternal grandfather was Duke Bernard Saxony II and her maternal grandmother is Elica Schweinfurt. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Albrecht, Pieter, Dietrich, Adele and Machteld. She was the third youngest of the six children. She had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Robert, Adele and Gertrude. She died in 1093 in Montreuil-sur-Loire,Maine-et-Loire,France.-
