Walter De was born about 1120 in Elmey Castle, Worcester, Worcestershire, England.  Walter De's father was Hugues De Beauchamp and his mother is Adeliza Matilda Taillebois.  His maternal grandparents were Ives (Ivo) de Taillebois , 1st Baron of Kendal and Lucia of Mercia. He had six brothers and two sisters, named Nicholas De, Stephen De, Simon De, Payne (Peganus) De, Milo De, Robert De, Beatrice De and Ellen De. He had six half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Peganus (Payne,Pagan) de, Walter de, Simon de, Milo de, Stephen de, Robert de, Adeline de, Beatrice de and Ellen de.
