Joseph was born in 1804 in Franklin co., va.. Joseph's father was Philemon SAUNDERS and his mother was Jemima GREER. His paternal grandfather was Julius SAUNDERS and his paternal grandmother is Jemima WOODWARD; his maternal grandparents were Joseph Greer Twin and Ann Lowe. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Jesse, Saunders, Littleberry James, Saunders, Saunders, Lucy, Jemima, Johannah, Elizabeth and Ala. He is the second youngest of the eleven children.-
