Ala was born in 1810 in Franklin co., Va.. Ala's father was Philemon SAUNDERS and her mother was Jemima GREER. Her paternal grandfather was Julius SAUNDERS and her paternal grandmother is Jemima WOODWARD; her maternal grandparents were Joseph Greer Twin and Ann Lowe. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Jesse, Saunders, Littleberry James, Saunders, Saunders, Joseph, Lucy, Jemima, Johannah and Elizabeth. She is the youngest of the eleven children.-
