William I the Lion of was born in 1143 in Scotland.  William I the Lion of's father was Henry Dunkeld of Huntingdon and his mother was Adelaide (Ada) de Warenne.  His paternal grandparents were David I the Saint of Scotland and Matilda (Maud) of Huntingdon; his maternal grandparents were William II de Warenne and Isabella Capet de Crepi of Vermandois. He had three brothers and five sisters, named David Dunkeld of, John, Malcolm IV the Maiden of, Ada of, Isabella of, Maud of, Marjory Canmore of and Margaret of.  He died at the age of 71 on December 4th, 1214 in Sterling, Stirlingshire, Scotland.  He was buried on December 10th, 1214 in Arbroath Abbey, Arbroath, Angus, Scotland.
