Lester was born about 1917. Lester's father was Francis Marion Sr. Cheatham and his mother was Emma Bright. His paternal grandfather was Joel C. Cheatham and his paternal grandmother is Nancy J. Williams; his maternal grandparents are Elias Bright and Sarah Ann Burris. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Frank Marion Jr., Jasper Oran, George W., Garland, Homer, Sidney, Larry, Velma, Trudy and Birdie. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Alvin or Albert, Jesse Gordon and Archie.-
