Birdie's father was Francis Marion Sr. Cheatham and her mother was Emma Bright. Her paternal grandfather was Joel C. Cheatham and her paternal grandmother is Nancy J. Williams; her maternal grandparents are Elias Bright and Sarah Ann Burris. She had eight brothers and two sisters, named Frank Marion Jr., Jasper Oran, George W., Garland, Homer, Sidney, Lester, Larry, Velma and Trudy. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Alvin or Albert, Jesse Gordon and Archie.-
