Cheatham and his paternal grandmother is Nancy J. Williams; his maternal grandparents are Jesse Wright Brookshire and Margaret Ann Jones. He had a brother and a sister, named Jesse Gordon and Archie. He had eight half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Frank Marion Jr., Jasper Oran, George W., Garland, Homer, Sidney, Lester, Larry, Velma, Trudy and Birdie.-
