Arley Lewis was born on October 22nd, 1898 in Camp Creek, Mercer Co., W Virginia.1 Arley Lewis' father was Anderson Basham and his mother was Naomi Frances Crews. His paternal grandparents were John Henry Basham and Martha Goodall. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Earnest, Bruce, Zina, Alvie, Demy, Vertie, Virgie and Lena. He was the fourth oldest of the nine children. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Willard Lee, Rosa B., Eliza A. and Cora B..
