Edward STAFFORD 
Edward was born in Brecknock Castle, Wales. Edward's father was Henry STAFFORD and his mother was Katherine WOODVILLE. His paternal grandparents were Humphrey STAFFORD and Margaret BEAUFORT; his maternal grandparents were Richard WOODVILLE and Jacquetta Of LUXEMBOURG. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Henry, Humphrey, Elizabeth and Anne. He died on May 17th, 1521 in Tower Hill, London. He was buried in Austin Friars, London.General Notes

The attainder of his father (1483) was reversed on the acce
ssion of Henry VII in 1485. He took a minor place at cour
t until the accession of Henry VIII, when he was made lor
d high constable, lord high steward, and a privy councillo
r (1509). He served in the army in France, served on a numb
er of commissions, and attended the king at the Field of th
e Cloth of Gold. Though Buckingham was supposed to be hig
h in the favor of Henry VIII, the king was both jealous an
d suspicious of him because of his wealth, his lands, and h
is descent ; on the paternal side he was a descendant of Th
omas of Woodstock, duke of Gloucester, son of Edward III; a
nd his mother was a sister of Edward IV's queen. Buckingha
m married a daughter of Henry Percy, earl of Northumberland
, and through the marriage of his children he was allied t
o a number of the greatest noble houses of England. He cam
e to represent those nobles who resented the power of Cardi
nal Wolsey and their own exclusion from high offices. In 15
21 Buckingham was arrested and tried on charges that he ha
d countenanced prophesies of his own succession to the thro
ne and had expressed his intention to murder the king. A ju
ry of peers upheld Henry's obvious intention to do away wit
h Buckingham. He was executed, and in 1523 an act of attain
der was passed by Parliament.
