Gertrude COURTENAY 
Gertrude was born in 1521 in Powderham Castle, Devon. Gertrude's father was William COURTENAY and her mother was Mary GAINSFORD. Her paternal grandparents were William COURTENAY and Cecily CHENEY. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Philip, John, James, Thomas, Katherine and Elizabeth. She was the oldest of the seven children. She had five half-brothers named George, Henry, Peter, Anthony and Nicholas. She died at the age of 45 on April 30th, 1566 in Raleigh, Devon. She was buried on May 1st, 1566 in Pilton, Devon.-
