George was born about 1503.1 George's father was William COURTENAY and his mother was Margaret EDGCOMBE. His paternal grandparents were William COURTENAY and Cecily CHENEY; his maternal grandparents were Richard EDGCOMBE and Joan TREMAYNE. He had four brothers named Henry, Peter, Anthony and Nicholas.
