Louis I 'Pious' 
Louis I was born in August 0778 in Casseneuil, Lot-et-Garonne, Aquitaine, France. Louis I's father was Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne and his mother was Hildegard of Vinzgau. His paternal grandparents were Pepin III 'the Short' and Lady Bertha Broadfoot; his maternal grandparents were Gerold Childebrand and Emma von Alamans. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Pepin, Lothaire, Bertha, Adelaide, Rotrude, Gisela and Hildegarde. He was the third youngest of the eight children. He had five half-brothers and nine half-sisters, named Duke of Ingelheim, the Monk, Bishop of Metz, Abbot of Saint Quentin, Pepin "The, Theodrade, Hiltrude, Adbelinda, Rothais, Aupais, Dhoude, Abbesse of Farmoutier, Adeltrude and Gertrude. He died in Ingelheim, Rhinehessen, Hesse, Germany. He was buried in Aachen Cathedral, Aachen, Westphalia, Germany.General Notes
Louis I (Holy Roman Empire), called The Pious (778-840), Holy Roman emperor (814-840), king of France (814-840), king of Germany (814-840), and king of Aquitaine (781-840). He was the son and sole successor of Charlemagne. In 817 Louis made plans for an orderly succession among his sons: Lothair I, Louis II (Louis the German), and Pepin of Aquitaine. Later he wanted to include in the succession Charles II (Charles the Bald), his son by a second marriage. Dissatisfied, his older sons rebelled (830, 833) against him and fought among themselves for supremacy as well. Pepin died in 838, and in 843 the empire was divided among the three surviving brothers (Verdun, Treaty of).
