Louis I was born in August 0778 in Casseneuil, Lot-et-Garonne, Aquitaine, France.  Louis I's father was Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne and his mother was Hildegard of Vinzgau.  His paternal grandparents were Pepin III 'the Short' and Lady Bertha Broadfoot; his maternal grandparents were Gerold Childebrand and Emma von Alamans. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Pepin, Lothaire, Bertha, Adelaide, Rotrude, Gisela and Hildegarde.  He was the third youngest of the eight children. He had five half-brothers and nine half-sisters, named Duke of Ingelheim, the Monk, Bishop of Metz, Abbot of Saint Quentin, Pepin "The, Theodrade, Hiltrude, Adbelinda, Rothais, Aupais, Dhoude, Abbesse of Farmoutier, Adeltrude and Gertrude.  He died in Ingelheim, Rhinehessen, Hesse, Germany.  He was buried in Aachen Cathedral, Aachen, Westphalia, Germany.


Louis I's first family with Ermengarde of Hesbaye

‌Louis I and Ermengarde of were married in a religious ceremony in 0798.  They had three sons and three daughters, named Lothaire, Pepin, Louis II 'The, Adelaide, Rotrud and Hildegard.


Louis I's second family with Judith of Bavaria

They had a son and two daughters, named Charles II 'le, Gisela and Adelheid.
