Charles II 'le was born in Frankfort-on-Main, Germany.  Charles II 'le's father was Louis I 'Pious' and his mother was Judith of Bavaria.  His paternal grandparents were Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne and Hildegard of Vinzgau; his maternal grandparents were Guelf (Welf) III of Alemannia and Hedwig (Eigilwich). He had two sisters named Gisela and Adelheid. He had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Lothaire, Pepin, Louis II 'The, Adelaide, Rotrud and Hildegard.  He died in The pass of Mount Cenis, Modena, Italy.

‌Charles II 'le and Richaut of were married in a religious ceremony.  They had three sons and two daughters, named Prince of France, Dreux, Prince of France, Rothilde Caroling of the West and Prince of France.
