Hildegarde was born in 0782.  Hildegarde's father was Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne and her mother was Hildegard of Vinzgau.  Her paternal grandparents were Pepin III 'the Short' and Lady Bertha Broadfoot; her maternal grandparents were Gerold Childebrand and Emma von Alamans. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Pepin, Lothaire, Louis I, Bertha, Adelaide, Rotrude and Gisela.  She was the youngest of the eight children. She had five half-brothers and nine half-sisters, named Duke of Ingelheim, the Monk, Bishop of Metz, Abbot of Saint Quentin, Pepin "The, Theodrade, Hiltrude, Adbelinda, Rothais, Aupais, Dhoude, Abbesse of Farmoutier, Adeltrude and Gertrude.
