Basilia was born about 1158.  Basilia's father was Earl Richard "Strongbow" deClare and her mother was Eva (Aoife) McMurrough.  Her paternal grandparents were Gilbert deClare , Earl Of Pembroke and Isabel de Beaumont; her maternal grandparents were dermot MacMurrough King of Leinster and Mor Ingen Muirchertaig O'Toole. She had a sister named Isabel Fitzgilbert.  She was the older of the two children. She had three half-sisters named Isabel fitz Gilbert, Elizabeth deClare Countess of and Isabel.  She died about 1203.

‌Basilia and Robert were married in a religious ceremony in 1172 in Ferns,County Leinster,Ireland.  They had a daughter named Maud.
