Walter, known as "The Elder", was born about 1010 in Longueville, Normandy, France.  "The Elder"'s father was Osbern de Bolebec and his mother was Duchess Avelina Aveline deCrepon.  His paternal grandparents were Sir. Herbastus Herfast deCrepon and Mrs-Herbastus deCrepon; his maternal grandparents were Sir. Herbastus Herfast deCrepon and Mrs-Herbastus deCrepon.  He was an only child.  He died in Styford, Northumberland, England.  He was buried in Companion of William I at Battle of Hastings.1 1 



"The Elder"'s family with Agnes Ermentrude Fleitel

‌"The Elder" and Agnes Ermentrude were married in a religious ceremony about 1025 in France ?.  They had three sons and two daughters, named Walter Giffard II Earl of, Walter II, Elias I, Rohese and Adelaide.
