Elias I was born in 1060 in Brimfield, Gloucestershire, England. Elias I's father was Baron Walter ("The Elder") Giffard and his mother was Agnes Ermentrude Fleitel. His paternal grandparents were Osbern de Bolebec and Duchess Avelina Aveline deCrepon; his maternal grandparents were Gerard deFlaitel and Herleve D'Evreux. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Walter Giffard II Earl of, Walter II, Rohese and Adelaide. He was the youngest of the five children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named "The Elder" and Beatrice.-
