William I de was born about 1196 in Helmsley Castle, North Ride, Yorkshire, England.  William I de's father was Lord Robert II ("Furfan") de Ros and his mother was Princess Isabel Scotland.  His paternal grandparents were Everard de Ros and Roese deTrussebutt; his maternal grandparents were King William of Scots (The Lion) and Miss Avenel. He had two brothers named William de and William of Helmsley.  He was the second oldest of the three children.  He died in 1264 in Poitou, France.1
