Hugues of France, known as The Grand, was born about 1057 in Vermandois,Normandy,France.  The Grand's father was King Henri I of France and his mother was Anna (Agnesa) of Kiev.  His paternal grandparents were King Robert II of France (The pious) and Constance of Toulouse; his maternal grandparents were Grand Duke Jaroslav I of Kiev and Prcs. Ingegerda Olafsdottir of Sweden. He had a brother named The fair.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died on October 18th, 1102 in Tarsus, Sicily, Italy.  He was buried in Tarsus, Sicily, Italy.

They had three daughters named Mathildeof Vermandois, Isabel of Vermandois and Agnes of Vermandois.
