Benjamin Thomas was born on February 1st, 1791 in Richland Dist., SC.1 Benjamin Thomas' father was John Archer Elmore and his mother was Mary Ann Sarah Saxon. His paternal grandparents were Archelas Elmore and Susannah Morris; his maternal grandparents were Benjamin Saxon and Elizabeth Perry. He had a brother and three sisters, named Franklin Harper, Narcissa, Sophia Saxon and Charlotte Perry. He had ten half-brothers and four half-sisters, named John Archer, Jr., Morris Martin, William Augustus, Luther Alfred, Henry Marshall, Laurence Ludlow, Physick Rush, Winfield Scott, Albert Standhope, James Scott, Susan Elizabeth, Sarah Terry, Mary Martin and Ann Harriet.
