Russell Lester was born on May 20th, 1914 in Monroe County, Indiana. Russell Lester's father was Charles Parker Shields and his mother was Clara Ann Miller. His paternal grandparents were David Shields and Lucy Amanda Vint; his maternal grandparents were Samuel Miller and Nancy Eads. He had five brothers named Willard, Jessie, Marshall Thomas, Wayne Tilman and Roger. He was the third oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 30 on December 1st, 1944.-
