Margaret was born on March 28th, 1790.  Margaret's father was Thomas Riach and her mother was Anna Cruickshank.  Her maternal grandparents were John Cruickshank and Margaret Buie. She had five brothers named Alexander, John, James, Peter and William.  She was the fourth oldest of the six children.
