Jean was born in January 1743.  Jean's father was Andrew Breckenridge and her mother was Isobella Jamison.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Brakenrig and Janet Wilson. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, James, John, Andrew, Edward, Andrew, Agnes, Janet and Sarah.  She was the eighth oldest of the ten children. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named William, Edward and Isobell.
