Janet was born on October 9th, 1737.  Janet's father was Andrew Breckenridge and her mother was Isobella Jamison.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Brakenrig and Janet Wilson. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, James, John, Andrew, Edward, Andrew, Agnes, Sarah and Jean.  She was the fifth oldest of the ten children. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named William, Edward and Isobell.
