Edward was born in January 1745.  Edward's father was Andrew Breckenridge and his mother was Isobella Jamison.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Brakenrig and Janet Wilson. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, James, John, Andrew, Andrew, Agnes, Janet, Sarah and Jean.  He was the nineth oldest of the ten children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named William, Edward and Isobell.  He died by stillbirth or at birth.
