Janet was born on June 29th, 1780.  Janet's father was Andrew Breckenridge and her mother was Elizabeth Ferguson.  Her paternal grandparents were Andrew Breckenridge and Isobella Jamison; her maternal grandparents were David Ferguson and Janet Watson. She had four brothers and six sisters, named David, Thomas, Andrew, John, Isobell, Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Jean, Janet and Elizabeth.  She was the fourth oldest of the eleven children.
