Janet was born on October 2nd, 1793 and her baptism took place on October 14th, 1793.  Janet's father was Andrew Breckenridge and her mother was Elizabeth Ferguson.  Her paternal grandparents were Andrew Breckenridge and Isobella Jamison; her maternal grandparents were David Ferguson and Janet Watson. She had four brothers and six sisters, named David, Thomas, Andrew, John, Isobell, Janet, Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Jean and Elizabeth.  She was the tenth oldest of the eleven children.
