István Körtvélyesi

István was born on December 13th, 1823 in Szabadka and his baptism took place in Szabadka Szent Teréz.¹   István's father was Imre Körtvélyesy and his mother was Julianna Padzser.  His paternal grandparents were Antal Körtvélyesi and Katalin Varga. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Imre, István, József, Lukács, József, József, József, Rozália, Julianna and Rozália.  He was the oldest of the eleven children.
