Benjamin was born on November 19th, 1720 in Tisbury, Dukes, Massachusetts, USA.1   Benjamin's father was Gershom Cathcart.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Gershom Cathcart and Phebe Coleman. He had six brothers and eight sisters, named Thomas, Joseph, Jonathan, Hugh, Gershom, Robert, Parnell, Abigail, Nancy, Ann, Martha, Phebe, Love and Huldah.  He was the oldest of the fifteen children.  He died at the age of 100 in 1820.
