Vilma was born on October 25th, 1888 in Aranyos. Vilma's father was Florencz Réthy (Szeti?) and her mother was Rebeka Székely. Her paternal grandparents were József Réti and Eszter Faragó; her maternal grandparents were <Unknown> and <Unknown>. She had three brothers and six sisters, named Zoltán, Florencz, Lajos, Zsófia, Zsófia, Eszter, Zsuzsana, Terézia and Terézia. She was the second oldest of the ten children.
