Robert D'Oyly, Esq. Colonel in the Army, and Governor of the Tower of London, who was twice married. His first wife, Mary ——, died s.p. about 1705, when her husband administered to her effects in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. His second wife was Margaret, daughter of Ralph Freeman, Esq. of Aspeden, co. Herts, (by Elizabeth his wife, daughter of Sir John Aubrey of Llanthrithid, co. Glamorgan,) and sister of Ralph Freeman. Esq. of Hamels and Aspeden. M.P. for Herts. These Freemans bore, "Azure, three lozenges argent."[376] Colonel R. D'Oyly held the governorship of the Tower till his death, which occurred Nov. 1732, when his remains were removed to Stadhampton for interment. He died in debt, and intestate, and Margaret his widow renouncing, administration was granted to one of his creditors, March 1722-3, in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury.
