Elizabeth D'Oyly, who about 1715 became the second wife of the Hon. and Rev. George Mordaunt, brother of Charles third Earl of Peterborough and Monmouth. This gentleman was 5th son of John Mordaunt, Viscount Avalon (by his wife, Elizabeth Carey, heiress at last of the Earls of Monmouth), and grandson of John Mordaunt first Earl of Peterborough (by Elizabeth his wife, sole dau. and heiress of William Howard, Lord Effingham, by Anne his wife, daughter and heiress of John Lord St. John of Bletsho).[378] He was thrice married, but had no sons; and by E. D'Oyly, his second wife, who died in 1718-19, and was buried at Fulham, co, Middlesex, he himself dying in 1728, left issue an only child,
1. Anna Maria Mordaunt, co-heiress with her half and younger sisters. She married the Very Rev. Jonathan Shipley, D.D, Dean of Winchester, afterwards Lord Bishop of St. Asaph. He died in 1788, she in 1803, æt. 86, having had one son and five daughters. The noble house of Mordaunt bore, "Argent, a chevron between three estoiles of six points sable"
