Peter was born in 1836 in Breightmet.1  Peter's father was Jonathan Twist and his mother was Ann (Nancy) Lomax.  His maternal grandparents were Joshua Lomax and Anne (Nancy) Wood. He had a brother and five sisters, named Joshua, Susannah, Mary, Nancy, Sarah and Deborah. He had an adopted brother named Adam.
