Nicholas was born on April 7th, 1836 in Mellor.1  Nicholas' father was William Mather and his mother was Margaret Pomfret. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Amos, Zephaniah, Mary, Nancy and Margaret.  He was the oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 87 on June 19th, 1923 in Mellor.2
