Robert was born in July 1791 in Shocklach and his baptism took place there on July 31st, 1791.1  Robert's father was Robert Hopley and his mother was Margaret Richards.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Hopley and Catherine Lewis; his maternal grandparents were Richard Richards and Anne Phythian. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, William, Samuel, Anne, Margaret, Margaret and Jane.  He was the oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 61 on March 21st, 1853 in Ebnal.  He was buried on March 26th, 1853 in Shocklach.2 3
