Richard was born on March 9th, 1890 in Birkenhead and his baptism took place there on April 20th, 1890.1  Richard's father was Richard Brereton and his mother was Lydia Timmis.  His paternal grandparents were Richard Brereton and Esther Eddowes; his maternal grandparents were Richard Timmis Jnr and Lydia Woodward. He had two brothers and four sisters, named William, Frank, Ginnie, Ethel, Elsie and Lillie.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 74 on November 1st, 1964 in Birkenhead.2
