Dirk was born in 1812 in Akersloot.  Dirk's father was Pieter Appelboom and his mother was Jannetje Arends Koning. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Arie, Pieter, Jacobus, Marijtje, Pietertje and Trijntje.  He was the oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 22 on April 21st, 1834 in Heiloo.1
